SOLUTIONS - Using a Remote Control/Remote Access software and an Internet connection to control your PC/Server when you are away from your home or business....

What is remote control computing and how can help at my home or business?

One of the big benefits of a broadband Internet connection is the increase speed over dialup. With this increased upload and download speed, you can do more with your connection. One benefit is being able to remotely control your home or office PC when you are away or on the road.

Remote Control computing allows you to remotely control your computer(s) from anywhere - using the mouse just like you were sitting at the PC! Some remote control applications simply allow you to move the mouse - but not transfer files. Using remote control can save you time and money, and if your remote control software includes file transfer capability you can move files back and forth from one location to another.
With remote control software and an Internet connection, you will never have to drive back to the office again to get that file you left on your PC at work. Just log in and transfer that file to your house!

How do I purchase and setup a Remote Control software?

There are many choices for remote control software. Some free choices are VNC or TightVNC or if you use Windows XP, it includes REMOTE DESKTOP - built in! Other options for Windows users are PCAnywhere from Symantec, NETOP from Crosstec, Timbuktu from Netopia, and many more. Most of these commercial products allow for file transfer, automated transfers, and many other options. RealVNC is free, but does not include the option to perform file transfers, but TightVNC does. Make sure you install and setup the software according to the manual/website.

Why do I need the TZO Dynamic DNS with my Remote Control software and how do I set it all up?

Your remote control software will work on any type of IP address, but you really should have a STATIC IP address - which means the IP address never changes. Due to the fact that many of the broadband providers sell Cable or DSL with only a dynamic IP - it's sometimes very difficult and expensive to obtain a static IP address.

TZO.COM DDNS (Dynamic DNS) is the simple solution to this common problem. The TZO DDNS provides you with a domain name to use with your Dynamic IP address - we also work on static IP's. TZO software tracks your IP address changes and updates the domain name immediately, allowing you and your users to connect remotely using this domain name instead of an IP address in your remote control software.

Here are some quick steps on how to best use TZO with your Remote control setup:

1) Get your software installed and running internally at the destination network and also install the client software on the PC that you'll be using to connect with. Make sure the client PC can remotely control the server from INSIDE the same network - troubleshoot according to the install guide.

2) You should now get your server you wish to control connected to your network if you are not already connected, and make sure the network is connected to your cablemodem or DSL modem.

3) Configure your router or firewall to open the proper ports (if you use one) in order to connect to your server remotely using the current IP address of the router. Most remote control software applications use a variety of ports. Check with your manual on what ports to forward to the server, and then you should forward the proper ports to the LAN IP address of your remote control server.

4) Once you can connect and remotely control your server from the Internet using the routers IP address, you should go to the TZO Website to download and install the TZO softwareon the remote control server itself, or on any PC or server that resides on the same network. If you do not have a PC or Server that can run the TZO software on the network, you can use a router or firewall that includes the TZO DDNS software such as some Linksys, NetGear, SMC, D-Link or other devices on our list.

5) Once you get TZO DDNS setup with your TZO domain name you selected, you can then use this domain name to connect to your remote control server from the Internet. It's very important that if you are running the TZO software, that you keep the software running at all times. If you use a TZO compatible router, the router will update the domain name when the IP changes on the router.

That's it! Its as simple as using the TZO DOMAIN NAME (Example: YourRemotePC.tzo.com) to connect to the remote control system remotely instead of using an IP address that's always changing. The TZO domain name NEVER changes, and you will always continue to use the same domain name whenever you or your clients want to connect to control the remote PC at that location.
