If you plan on accessing your Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive remotely, you should set a static LAN IP address on the device before activating remote access. In this example, we have our Home Media Network Hard Drive behind a Linksys WRT54G2 router. The default IP address range on the Linksys Router is 192.168.1.1.
To set a static IP when using a Linksys router, we suggest an IP address of 192.168.1.200 or higher up to 192.168.1.253. By setting the IP of the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive to 192.168.1.200 or higher you avoid IP conflicts with DHCP IP ranges and if you ever have a power outage and the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive reboots it will not change IP's.
Note: If you do not have a Linksys router, or your router LAN IP range is different from 192.168.1.1, set the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive device to a Static IP address according to your network layout.
Step 1) Log in to the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive device by going to https://IPAddress (where IP Address is the IP address of your Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive) and then log in using the admin username and password. In this case, our Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive device was at https://192.168.1.103, since it was set to be using DHCP.

Step 2) Once you log in, you will be at the Home Status Page. Click the System tab as shown in the screenshot shown below.
Step 3) You should then click the Network tab and you will see the screen shown below. You should now move the Network Addressing slider bar over to the Manual option and click apply.
Step 4) You will now be presented with the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive IP and DNS options screen as shown below. To set a Static IP, you first need to uncheck the "Automatically configure all network settings" and then enter in the following information as shown in the screenshot below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This static LAN IP address of 192.168.1.200 is typically a "safe" LAN IP address to set for your device to, provided local router is set up to use 192.168.1.1 - In most cases, if you have a Linksys router, this will be the case. If you do not have a Linksys router and/or your IP address of your router is not 192.168.1.1, then you should consult with someone that can help you set a static LAN IP according to your network layout.
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.1.200 (as shown below)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (as shown below)
DNS should be set to 192.168.1.1 (as shown below)
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (as shown below)
Step 5) Click the Apply button and you will then be prompted to restart your Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive device. Once the device restarts, you can then log back in to your device using the IP address of 192.168.1.200
Now that you have properly set up a Static LAN IP, you can go back into the device and set up remote access as shown in the main Iomega Home Network Hard Drive tutorial |
