Xitami

Setting-up multiple domains using TZO
and the Xitami server |
| |
|
| |
This tutorial shows you how to set
up Multiple Top Level domains with TZO using the
Xitami Webserver. Xitami is a very popular free
webserver by the Imatix Corporation, and can be
downloaded for free at http://www.imatix.com.
Other servers capable of Virtual Domains on a single
IP address are Microsoft Internet Information Server
(IIS 4.0) as well as Website Pro by OReilly. Virtual
Domain capable Web Servers can host multiple websites
on a single IP, and usually read the HTTP Header info
to figure out which website (Directory) to send the
HTTP request to.
Download and Set up Xitami WebServer. Make sure you
place your HTML files in the Webpages directory under
the Xitami directory. Webpages is the standard
directory where the HTML pages go.
Once you get the Xitami Server setup, it will ask you
for a Username and Password for the Admin account, so
you can remotely set up and administer the Webserver
from any browser. Remember this username and password
since you will need it later.
Let's say that we are running TZO.NET from Xitami,
and that's our first domain (Located in the Webpages
directory under the Xitami directory). Once we get
that all set up and running, we will add a new
virtual domain on the same IP - In this example, we
will call this domain (DOMAIN2.COM). You will need to
create a directory for EACH VIRTUAL DOMAIN under the
Xitami directory, and in this case, I created
DOMAIN2, DOMAIN3, and DOMAIN4 directories under the
Xitami directory as shown in the screenshow
below.
Your HTML files go in the respective directory for
each virtual domain. Once you click on Setup, It will
launch your default system browser and it will ask
you for a Username and Password. Enter the
Administration username and password you selected
when you set up Xitami. Once you enter the proper
info, you will be sent to the Xitami Admin screen in
your browser as shown below. Click on the VIRTUAL
HOST WIZARD link below to add a new virtual
host. |

Once you click on the Virtual host wizard, It
will launch another screen in your browser as seen
below. For each virtual domain you want to add, you
need to make sure you added the directory for the
virtual domain as shown in step 3 (i.e.. DOMAIN2,
DOMAIN) before proceeding. You will need to add 2
virtual domains for each Top Level domain you want to
add (One for doman2.com and then another for
www.domain2.com) |

Shown above is the info for the first Virtual
Host wizard for DOMAIN2.COM. You should enter the
info as shown above for each virtual domain. For
example, since I can create the virtual domain for
DOMAIN2.COM, I called my CFG file domain2. The IP
address should be set to ANY Address, and you need to
enter the DNS Host Name as DOMAIN2.COM. The web page
root directory should be set to the HTML directory,
in this case DOMAIN2
The other Info is up to you, and that includes which
CGI-BIN to use, as well as username and passwords.
After you finish entering the info, click CREATE and
then restart the Xitami Server. Test the domain2.com
and see if it works. The next step is to repeat this
step for www.domain2.com as shown in the screenshot
below. |

Setting up the other domains are as simple as
creating the directory as shown in step 3, then
completing the Virtual Host Wizards 2 times for each
Domain. In the case above, I am adding the virtual
host for www.domain2.com. Make sure you notice the
different CFG file and DNS Host Name differences, yet
the Web page root directory points to the same
DOMAIN2 directory.
That's it! Once you are finished adding all the
Virtual Domains, Restart the Xitami Server and test
your new domains! All from a Single IP
address! |

As seen in the screen above, the WEBPAGES
directory under the Xitami directory is where you
place your HTML files for your main website. Start
Xitami, and right-click on the Xitami Icon in the
system tray. You will see the screenshot shown below.
Click on the Setup Button. |
