Using TZO DDNS and Thingamablog to run your own Blog site!
You can now get in on the whole blog movement by running your own blog site! This blog site can run directly from your own server in your office or home. Using a few free programs and TZO DDNS, you can get your own blog running on your own server in under an hour!

In this tutorial, we will assume you already have a TZO account (trial or paid account) such as MyBlog.tzo.com or YourBlog.com depending on the service level you have from TZO. We will use TZO V3.2 for Windows as a simple HTML web server, FileZilla Server as a simple FTP server,
and ThingamaBlog as our client side blogging utility.

The first part of this tutorial will be to setup your server with TZO Dynamic DNS, and setup TZO as a web server in normal HTML Mode. We will also setup FileZilla FTP server to accept incoming connections to our root folder of our website. Follow below to complete these steps and get your blog running:

SERVER SETUP - Step 1) Create a directory on your server called c:\blog. Create this directory on the same system where you plan on hosting the Blog HTML files. In this case, we created c:\blog

SERVER SETUP - Step 2) Download TZO Here - Install TZO on the dedicated server where you made the c:\blog directory

Download and install TZO on the "server" you are planning on using. The server can be any PC in your home or office that stays up and running all the time. This server will also be attached to a cable or DSL line or some other Internet connection. Install TZO using the defaults for installation. Once the install finishes, TZO will start automatically. When it asks for a TZO Key, put in your TZO Key or you can choose the 10 or 30 day free trial. You should now select your domain name and then when the screenshot appears as shown below, select ENABLE FOR NORMAL HTML PROCESSING. You should also set the FOLDER to C:\Blog as we created earlier in step 1. Set the default to INDEX.HTML and the port to 80 as shown below:
TZO Web Server Setup

Once you have your TZO Web Server settings screen set as shown in the screenshot above, click the FINISH button in the bottom right corner. You can continue or skip the port detection and then your server will be started and running. The TZO Domain name will also be pointed to your IP address where your server is running.

SERVER SETUP - Step 3) Open port 80, 20 and 21 in your router and point to your servers IP address. If you don't have a router, you can skip this step. If your port 80 was detected as blocked by TZO, you can If you don't know how to setup or forward ports in your router, you can check out the TZO Tutorials for details on opening/forwarding ports on your router.

SERVER SETUP - Step 4) You now need to download and setup the FTP Server. Download the FILEZILLA SERVER from the FileZilla site at Sourceforge. Make sure you download the Win32 version. Set the FileZilla server up on your system using the defaults. As soon as you finish the install, the server will run automatically. Once the server starts you will see a screenshot similar to the one shown below. Click OK to connect to the server to administer the server and add accounts

SERVER SETUP - Step 5) You now need to configure the FileZilla FTP Server. Once you see the main FileZilla screen, click EDIT, USERS as shown in the screenshot shown below:

SERVER SETUP - Step 6) You now need to add a user to the FileZilla FTP Server. Once you see screenshot as shown below, click the ADD Button as shown circled in red

SERVER SETUP - Step 7) Add a user to the FileZilla FTP Server (Continued). Once you see screenshot as shown below, type in the name of the user you wish to add. This will be the username of the individual that is updating the blog. In our example, bob will be our user updating the blog. Once you are done typing in the username, click OK
