Using
PC Anywhere v 10.5 with TZO |
| |
Using the Dynamic DNS service from TZO is by
far the easiest possible way to connect with PC
Anywhere when the HOST PC is using a dynamic IP
address. PC Anywhere allows a user to reconnect back
to one of their machines while at a remote location
and perform remote control tasks or transfer
files. |
| |
|
| |
Many
Internet users have a connection at home and at work,
but some of these people travel and would like to
gain access to their home or work PC from the road or
another location. A major problem with this scenario
is most cable and DSL users are stuck with a Dynamic
IP address. When the host PC dials into the Internet
via a modem,or the cable or DSL modem changes its IP,
the Host PC's IP Address would most likely be
different every time. If you don't know the Host PC's
IP address or domain name, then you can't make the
connection! |
| |
|
| |
Although PC Anywhere can be connected
modem-to-modem, this document assumes that you will
be using the Internet as the connection between the
two PC's, and you have already run the installation
to install PCAnywhere on both the Client and Host
PC's. |
| |
|
| |
We
also assume that you are running the TZO software on
the HOST system. For more information on installing
and running TZO, please see the TZO Help
File. |
| |
|
| |
Confused on the Host and Client? In simple terms,
imagine the HOST PC is the PC you wish to connect
back to when you are on the road, and the Client
system would be the PC or laptop you intend on using
to connect with. The Host is usually your PC at home,
and the Client PC is could be your laptop you use
when you are on the road traveling. |
| |
|
| |
Setting Up the HOST PC with
PCAnywhere |
| |
|
| |
 |
|
|
|
| |
Run
PC Anywhere - and make sure the icon bar at the top
says HOSTS as shown in the screenshot above. In the
main window, double click on the ADD HOST
Icon. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
You
will then see the screenshot above, Default
connection type is TCP/IP, make sure your TCP/IP
option is checked off as shown. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Now
click the SETTINGS tab, You will then see the
screenshot above. We set our PCAnywhere host to
LAUNCH WITH WINDOWS, incase the system reboots from a
power outage, etc. We also set it to RUN MINIMIZED.
Set your settings to your liking or company
policy. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Now
you should click on the next tab, the CALLERS tab.
This is where you add your usernames and passwords
for connecting to this host. We click the NEW ITEM
(unmarked) button in the upper left hand corner. This
launches the New Caller dialog box as shown in the
screenshot below. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Once
you click the NEW ITEM button, you should see the
screenshot above, the NEW CALLER dialog box. Enter in
the LOGIN NAME and the PASSWORD for each user. In the
screenshot above, our user that will be calling in
will be NewUser, and we set the password and
confirmed the password. Once you enter the username
and password of the new caller, you should click the
PRIVILEGES tab as shown below to set the caller
rights. |
| |
|
| |
Warning - Make sure you set proper
security! Once someone knows your TZO Name, and you
happen to forget to enable security in PC Anywhere ,
ANYONE - YES - ANYONE can completely control your PC
and they can do serious damage to your PC if they
have malicious intent. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Shown above is the PRIVILEGES tab for the caller.
Set the caller rights to your liking or company
policy. In this case, we own the PC and want to have
complete control of all PCAnywhere functions,so we
select SUPERUSER as shown above. Once you do this,
click apply. |
|
|
|
| |
Now
you are ready to connect to the Internet and get your
PC ready to accept Remote Control requests from the
Internet. You should dial up to the Internet, or make
sure your cable or DSL modem is up and running. You
should also double check to make sure TZO is
running. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
To set the
host to wait for a remote "call" over the Internet,
you should launch PC Anywhere and click on the HOSTS
Icon. You now want to double click on the MY NEW HOST
Icon that you created for TZO (as shown in the main
window, highlighted) |
| |
|
| |
Once you
launch the MY NEW HOST setting, your PC is now ready
to be remotely controlled by using a remote control
PCAnywhere client. Your PC Anywhere screen will
minimize and you will see a screen similar to
below. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Your PC is
now waiting to be remotely controlled. Now, any
PCAnywhere client can come into your PC and can
perform tasks as if the remote user was on site
locally. See the CLIENT PC section below to learn how
to configure a client PC to connect to your HOST
PC. |
| |
|
| |
Setting Up
the CLIENT PC with PCAnywhere |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Now,
You want to set up the client PC that will be doing
the remote controlling. Click on the REMOTES Icon on
the button bar as shown above and you will see the
screenshot below |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
You
will then see the screenshot above, Default
connection type is TCP/IP, make sure your TCP/IP
option is checked off as shown. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Now click the
SETTINGS tab and you will see the screenshot above.
Type in the exact TZO DOMAIN NAME of the PC you wish
to connect to. You should type in the TZO Name as
shown above, but replacing myname.tzo.com with the
PC's TZO domain name that you wish to control. After
you put in the domain name, set the username and
password below. Since the caller we added on the HOST
PC was NewUser, we will put in the NewUser username
and password in and click OK.
|
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
You are now
prompted to name the remote connection. We typed in
name.tzo.com, replace your connection name with
anything you like and hit the enter button to finish
editing the connection name. That's it, you have
created a HOST on one PC, and on another PC you
created the remote Client and configured the client
to connect to the remote
host. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Now all you
need to do to connect to your Host machine via PC
Anywhere is to dial up to the Internet from your
remote PC, and then run PC Anywhere. Click on the
REMOTES button as shown below. Double click the
MYNAME.TZO.COM (in your case, it will be named
whatever you decide to call the connection) and it
will begin to connect to the host PC. You should then
instantly be connected to your Host PC - within 20
seconds or so. The screenshot above shows PCAnywhere
attempting to make a connection to a remote
host. |
| |
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
If you have
any problems, make sure TZO is running on the host,
and also check that the host is online and can browse
the Internet. If you own a SOHO router or have any
type of Firewall or NAT firewall protecting your
internal LAN from the Internet, you may need to open
certain ports in your firewall or router to let
PCAnywhere to get to your Host. To open ports in your
router or firewall for PCAnywhere, see your router or
firewall manual or see the TZO router tutorials under
our support section. Listed below are the standard
PCAnywhere ports for the HOST PC. You should
configure your router to open these ports to the LAN
IP address of the HOST PC.
Port 5631 TCP
Port 5632 UDP |
