TZO
standard service: detailed
description
|
| |
|
|
• |
here's the problem -
Each time you connect to the Internet your
Internet service provider (ISP) assigns a number
(called the IP address) to your computer. But each
time you connect your ISP assigns your computer a
different IP address. To connect to your computer
someone else needs to know your IP address, but your
address keeps changing. |
| |
|
|
• |
and the solution
- Our Standard TZO assigns a name that
you choose to your computer and that name doesn't
change even when your IP address changes. Our servers
maintain a link between the name you've chosen (your
sub-domain name) and the IP address your ISP has
currently assigned you. |
| |
|
|
• |
the result is
- Others can
easily link to your computer by addressing it by its
TZO name rather than by trying to find its current IP
address. |
| |
|
|
• |
and here's an
example -
Assume
you want your company's name, ACME, to be the name by
which others connect to your server. With the
Standard TZO Service others would connect by using
your sub-domain name,
ACME.TZO.COM. |

|
|

how the Internic is
involved -
The Internic
is the international organization that assigns domain
names, and charges for doing so. With the Standard
TZO Service you will have a sub-domain name of the
TZO domain. The Internic will not be involved and you
will not have to pay a fee to the
Internic. |

advantages
- It's often more convenient to host
your web site, an email system, a game server, a chat
server, a video-conference, or any other TCP/IP
application from your own location and on your own
system rather than from someone else's site. You
won't need to pay someone else to host your web site
or to host other activity. TZO can be used with all
popular operating systems. You choose your own
sub-domain name; it's not assigned to you. You don't
have to pay theInternic to register your sub-domain
name. |
| |
|
|
• |
disadvantages
- Your name is a sub-domain name of
TZO rather than its own top-level domain name.
Consequently your name has our name embedded in it so
that with this service you'd have a name like
ACME.TZO.COM. You have to maintain your own server
and you'd become the system administrator. If you
want your host application always available, you'd
need to have your system running 24 hours a day. Your
ISP may not allow you to run a server from your
location. You should check with your
ISP. |
