tzoupdate client for UNIX OS platforms
(Linux, *BSD, or other UNIX OS with GNU Build Tools installed)

Version: 1.11 released August 8 2007

'tzoupdate' is a lightweight, portable, and easy-to-install client for TZO.COM dynamic DNS. Before installing, be sure you have your TZO account information ready. You may order TZO Dynamic DNS ('TZO Standard'), or you may request a free 30 day trial of TZO.

  Easy installation for Supported Platforms

If you are using of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.4, CentOS 4.4, or Fedora Project 6 please choose the '.rpm' version under Downloads.
For Ubuntu 7.04, please choose the '.deb' installer.

Other Linux versions and distributions might be compatible with these pre-built packages, but the best course would be to re-build the source rpm (.src.rpm) or directly compile using the Makefile.
Regardless of installation method, after installation please follow the Post-Install Configuration section below.

  Manual installation

If your OS platform is not listed as supported above (no pre-built packages for), you may either 'rebuild' the .src.rpm file, download the C sourcecode (and compile it), or download the pre-compiled version that is available as a .tar.gz.
The src.rpm option is the best option for most Linux. You will need "GNU developer tools" (gmake and gcc, plus rpmbuild) for this task. Other Linux or UNIX systems should start with the C source code (.src.tar.gz) download. For either approach, a requirement is you gave the GNU developer tools correctly installed. Technical Support can not assist with installation of developer tools (please see your OS documentation or support channel).

For manual installs, do not forget to invoke the client via tzowrapper.sh, which runs as a daemon (a single and persistent background process).

   Post-Install Configuration (all install types)

IMPORTANT: After installation, you have to configure and verify your installation. These steps are fully detailed in the README doc, and consist of:
1) tell tzoupdate what your account info (domain, TZO key, email) is
2) do a single tzowrapper.sh test update, including checking the tzo logs in /tmp, to be sure that everything is correct...
3) Lastly, you want to configure an entry so tzoupdate starts up (and stays running) each time your server boots.
4) Since tzowrapper.sh starts as a background system process, you should reboot at your earliest convenience.

With rpm and deb installers, the README is installed under /usr/share/doc/tzoupdate*/ (note some Linux distributions may use a different default documentation directory such as /usr/local/share/doc/).

Please choose download file appropriate for your OS.

If you have problems downloading from the FTP site, please choose the (slower, but more compatible with some firewalls) alternate/HTTP method.
